A fun little east coast vacation!
After visiting Mike, Emily and baby Sadie we saw some sites in Virginia, North Carolina and in D.C. This was a great view of Washingtion D.C. from Robert E. Lee's home in Arlington, VA. One of my favorite books as a child was called Lady of Arlington which was about Robert E. Lee and his family. I've always admired this man's integrity and self-discipline.
Tom enjoyed learning more about Robert E. Lee too. We had a fabulous tour guide that told us all about the Washington/Lee family. Robert E. Lee was married to the step-granddaughter of Gearge Washington. Her father built the Custis-Lee Mansion now called Arlingtion House on the hill to honor George Washington.
We visited President Wilson's home that was just a few blocks from our hotel. He lived here after he was president and this car was a gift he recieved from a friend. We walked by several embassies as we walked to his home.
The weather was great except for when we were in the sun it felt a little warm. We visited the art museum, the white house visitors center and walked to the zoo from our hotel. There are so many fun free places to see in D.C. We also visited Alexandria and took a interesting walking tour of the historic town.
While in Old Salem we saw the village that the Moravians built. Costumed tradesmen and women recreate life in Salem and tell the story of historic salem. The Oldest Women's college in America began in Old Salem.
Thomas Jefferson designed Monticello, the Virginea State Capitol, and the University of Virginia. He learned about architecture from books and from buildings he saw in Europe. Monticello is called "neoclassical" because it is a new version of the classical styles of ancient Greece and Rome. Thomas Jefferson has always been one of my favorite presidents.
We visited The Biltmore House, America's largest home. We took a guided tour and learned all about the priceless masterpieces and antiques, and intricate architectual details. It was interesting learning about their family and the world of elegance.
The gardens were beautiful and it was fun taking a walk around the estate.
We visited the River Bend Farm and saw lots of old farm equipment from the turn of the century. Here we are pretending to be farm workers from the estate. I wish our vacation would last another week. We had a wonderful time seeing the sites and learning so many interesting things.

Our sweet granddaughter...Sadie Pearl Evans
This was the first time that I saw Sadie. I was so excited to hold her. Isn't she beautiful!
This cute little bundle weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.
This tiny bracelet was given to her by her great-grandma Pearl.
Grandpa adores his new grand-daughter.
We were so excited to spend time with Sadie in North Carolina. She is such a sweet little baby!
We tried to match outfits that day. Doesn't she look pretty in pink!
Sadie loves to sleep on Daddy's chest.
Her first dress fits her perfect. She looks like a little doll in it!
She loves to be outside on the front porch. I have so much fun just rocking her. The weather has been perfect in North Carolina.
She is cozy and comfortable when Grandpa holds her.
Sadie was born on Sunday, July 13th 2008 at 3:59 a.m. We are so excited to have our tenth grandchild. She is such a beautiful baby. We were so fortunate to be able to spend time with her and her family. Mike has been off for the whole week so it has made our time here extra special. Emily is doing well and is an amazing mom to little Sadie! We have also enjoyed being here with Emily's mom. It will be so hard to leave Sadie, Mike and Emily when we go back to Arizona.

Happy Birthday Susan!
I'm so lucky to have a wonderful sister like Susan. She was always so good to me and made sure that I was included even when she had her friends over. I remember a friend saying, "Do we have to have Cheryl play with us too?" Susan told her that we wouldn't want to leave Chery out. That wouldn't be nice. We have had lots of good times together. She was my best friend in high school. I'm grateful that she is my sister! Happy Birthday Sis!!

Happy Birthday Matthew!
Matt loves to read books! Isn't he such a cute little boy!!
We went out to eat at AH-SO. We have lived here forever and didn't even know about the place. Sarah told us about it. They chop and cook the food up right in front of you. The food was yummy!!
The girls enjoyed watching the volcano made out of onions erupt!
Carys loves the new kittens that Matt picked up today!
Look at all the snow in Prescott! We always loved the snow especially when we would have a snow day!
It was a fun tradition for the kids to be in the Kiddie Parade each year in Prescott. They had fun spending time with their Grandma and Grandpa Leffue too!
Matt won the award for the Youngest Walking Patriotic Boy! I think he recieved a ribbon and $20.00 as a prize!! Wow ...we were so excited!!
Matt was such a sweet little boy! He is such a kind husband, son, brother and friend.
What a beautiful couple!
Matt loves Jana!
It is hard to believe that my baby is 22 now! Matt was such a cute baby with lots of black hair when he was born. He loved playing basketball when he was a little boy. Now he is all grown up and married to beautiful Jana. Matt and Jana recently moved into a new apartment and they are both so excited. It is not too far from his school and their work. It is great that they are both working at the same hospital. Jana is working in the ICU unit and Matt is still working at MedAire. We are so happy with the good choices that they make everyday. It was great spending the day with Matt!! Happy Birthday Matt!! We love you!!
